Upcycled Vinyl Records

About a year ago I was walking through this amazing store in downtown Harrisburg that sells all locally made products, most are upcycled items made from so many random things it's easy to lose hours... While i was there my eyes were drawn repeatedly over and over again to a wall of recycled record items. Now, i've seen record bowls, clocks, etc in the past and haven't paid too much attention to them but with my new found LOVE of making old things new the records just kinda struck something inside me.

True to my thrifty nature i didn't do what most people would do and go to a thrift store, pick out a few and get to work... oh no! I stewed on it for MONTHS until i ran across a nice size mixed collection of mostly 45's with some of the 12 inch vinyl thrown in, for free on craigslist! Armed with my large pile of unwanted vinyl i now had to figure out what to do with these things...

A quick jump onto google yielded me some really inspiring ideas like this Cherry Record Handbag, AMAZING Laser Cut Jewelry, and this great tutorial on making wrist cuffs (def, on my list of things to try!).

Here are my first attempts at creating out of records:

Earring holder used as a base for a diaper cake

So far my venture into using records has proved extremely fun, easy and economical. Tutorials for both the earring holders and the fruit basket will be posted soon!

Thanks for stopping by and i hope i inspired you a little!
